Cheruthuruthy village is the seat of Kalamandalam, a world famous Kathakali training centre. Besides being a major Kathakali centre it also provides training in other performing art forms like Mohiniyattam, Koodiyattam, Thullal and Nangiarkoothu. Training in vocal and percussion instruments is also given here. Established in 1930 by Vallathol Narayana Menon a Malayalam poet, Kalamandalam and its surroundings reflect the simplicity, purity and ethnic atmosphere in which these arts have evolved for centuries. Thrithala

Thrithala, famous for its historical ruins, is of great archaeological importance. The ruins of a large mud fort with a deep moat hewn from laterite and the Siva temple are notable cultural monuments. The Kattil Madom Temple, a domed structure made of granite slabs, on the Pattambi-Guruvayoor road is a Buddhist monument believed to date back to the 9th or 10th century. Spreading over a core zone of 236.74 square kilometres Silent Valley National Park is the second largest National Park in Kerala. The park is one of the last undisturbed tracts of South-western Ghats Mountains. Perfect silence prevails over the place which even devoid chirping of cicadas. Called the Dwaraka of the South, it is famous for its offering ‘Thulabharam’ where devotees are weighed against bananas, sugar, jaggery and coconuts equivalent to their weight. The annual Guruvayur Festival is held during February-March and commences with an Elephant race. The festival is unavoidable. Not to forget the Guruvayur Devaswom Elephant Sanctuary, just 3 km away from the temple— one of the largest elephant sanatoriums in the world, also known as Punnathurkotta. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a 391 square kilometres protected area in Chittur Taluk. It is spread between Anaimalai Hills and Nelliampathy Hills. The Kerala Parambikulam National Park has a thick cover of bamboo, rosewood and sandalwood trees along with varied wildlife including leopards, wild dogs, sloths, crocodiles, civet, tigers, elephants, wild boar, barking deer, spotted deer, monkeys, langurs, porcupines and macaques and more.
